Burning Japan is set in Tsumagoi Farm. The campsite is built in a valley, far away from prying eyes. The setting is beautiful. Rolling hills in shades of autumn, sweetly kissed and turned yellow, rusty and red from the chill in the air. Japanese culture celebrates nature and the turning seasons. Japanese people traditionally have a deep respect for nature, which has to some extent been lost in the cities they inhabit. The Shinto practice aims to maintain a connection between humans, nature, and kami.

Here in the valley, it feels like that connection can be rediscovered. The usually reserved people appear to relax, bend the rules, and escape the beehive of daily life. Here, they are able to connect with themselves and others in a rare informal setting, free from judgment and societal hang-ups.
